45-70. mossy's are cheap, and the resale value is not very good.
X2!
I'd go with an Remmy 870 Wingmaster (not an express model), 1100, or 1187 if buying a new shotgun on a budget. Used pump shotgun, there is only one choice, Winchester Model 12!!!!
of those 2 choices the marlin beats the mb imo, not my first choice of calibers but will have no problems getting the job done if you can handle the recoil and shoot it well. just be sure to give any remlin a thorough eyeballing for defects/flaws before buying. a pre-rem mdl I'd prefer. I just happen to have 2 marlin pre-rem levers in 35 caliber and don't really need both. I'm not looking to make $ off a member but would need what I have into them. pm me if interested.
hows the .35 compared to the 45-70? trying to find a good ballistics chart but i'd rather have an opinion from some people who actually use these rounds, hows the stopping power on a hog?
forgot to mention, i have a mossberg 835, which i like an unhealthy amount, possibly my favorite rifle in the safe. I was going to get a marlin 336 in 30-30 a while back but decided on a savage 7mm rem mag (I regret that choice)
OK since you already have a shotgun that will knock the fillings out your teeth out when loaded with 3" or 3 1/2" rounds and fired, maybe a rifle is in order. Since you apparently aren't recoil sensitive, I'd go with a .450 Marlin instead of the .45-70, why play around with the small potatoes.
Nacho can square you away with that .35 Rem which in my opinion is a .30-06 on sternoids... The .35 Rem gained it's popularity from PA and is known as the elimate Bear gun....
A while back I was playing with the idea of a 450 or 444, (I try to get larger caliber so my brother doesn't sneak them out to the range, he's only 125lbs). The main problem I found with the 450 was the gun was slightly too much for what I wanted to spend at the time and I dont even think I found a gun that shoots a 444. I think a .35 would be a fun lil hog gun.. I have a feeling that reloading press is gonna be pumpin out rounds
