As far as the AR thing goes, been there done that. For a hunting gun I'd personally go with a .308 AR platform, if I wanted to use an AR to hunt with. As an all around "fun gun" for the range, tin cans, plicking, and some hunting an AR-15 in .223 would be fine. Personally, there are many other options for outstanding hunting and plicking guns out there. A Ruger 10/22 in .22 LR for the range and plicking and a good bolt action rifle (short action - .243, .260, 7MM-08, .280, .308) is outstanding for anything huntable in this state! In the southeast for that matter.

If my choices were limited to a 308 sized rifle, I'd rather hunt with a light weight bolt gun than the AR10 platform. Heck, you can purchase a bolt gun and one very, very nice scope for the cost of a AR10.

That's exactly what I just said!

Chill out!...I was only agreeing with you about the bolt gun. The AR10 is awkward and heavy and over priced.

I have never held one or shot one, but I have seen some new 16" models that weigh in at +/- 7 lbs. Isn't this the same weight as some of these 24" bolt guns?

have shot a couple different configuration AR-10s. I find them very bulky and heavy.. will stick with my AR-15s. Just cause of the price of ammo between the two.. I would cry , to dump a mag of .308 vs. .223 .... lol

My buddy showed up at camp today to show me his new AR. He couldn't get it zeroed in. LMFAO...no wonder. His scope was mounted upside down and looked like an X instead of a +... I got his ass straight now and we gonna go burn some powder tomorrow. He admitted he was 3 sheets when he mounted it.
