My dad has a colt 1911 and carries it daily. Well he called me today asking what I know about Armscor/rock island armory tactical 2011 model 51567. I told him all I know is that it's a 2011 model and it holds 14 +1 rounds. can y'all tell me anything about it? What's the difference between the two?
Here's the web page for the Armscor:

I have read many good things about the RIA/Armscor .45 1911 models. From what I understand they are made in the Phillipines. The 2011 Tactical looks like they took the 1911 and added a bunch of stuff that 1911 enthusiasts tend to add to their custom rigs - ambidexterous safety, extended beavertail, combat hammer, skeletonized trigger, accessory rail, etc. They look nice on the web, and I would take one if someone offered it to me. Not sure what they cost, but if they price them like they do their 1911 models, it is probably cheaper than a similar Colt, Remington or other make.
IMO your dad should keep carrying his Colt and forget about the RIA 1911. The Filipino 1911s are nowhere the quality of the US made pistols. Their heat treating is not as good as over here. Will have problems with parts not being hard enough and deforming after time. If he really does want a new 1911 , i would look at Para-ordance, Springfield, and if the pockets are deep, a Kimber.
the 2011 is probably not going to be as comfortable to carry either. my brother has a STI 2011, it is a double stack .45 and is kind of like holding a brick. shoots amazing, just not a good carry gun. i agree with kemster, go with one of those.
Agree with Scott (Kempster), there is a reason the "newer" off brands and even some of the name brand 1911's run $400-$600. Mims parts and cheap metal. A good used original 1911A1 will run you $1500-3000, just like a new Para, Kimber, Springfield or Remington of the same "grade"! He'd be a fool to change.
Just sold a S&W 637 .38 Cal which is a very light and a great super light weight concealedcarry gun, they sell new for around $375.00, aluminum and mims parts. Just picked up a 1973 S&W 60 .38 Cal SS for $425.00 delivered, weighs 6 Oz more than the 637 but after 38 years still looks new. All quality SS used throughout. The 637 won't last another 20 years just based upon what it's made of....
