you are gonna loose some velocity with that length bbl, but realistically with a premium bullet like a partition and 200 yds or less a 130 gr will perform like a 270 (flat shooting/long range), a 180-200gr for a hog thumper, or imo the one that will do all at any range, a 150gr.

I have been reading up on that, some say its +/- 100 fps/ per inch of loss using the same grain. I was thinking about staying in that 150 gr to 165 gr range as a lot of Rem 7 308 shooters are reporting their best results using similar rounds.
I only have one box of ammo and one box of once fired brass. Maybe trade for a box of .223 hollow points. I have no use for the ammo as I no longer have a .308.
Or trade for a box of .25-06. 117 gr.
I seriously doubt you would loose 100 fps/inch, more like 30-50 fps/", and you could make up most of that lost velocity with diff powders/primers, if you re-loaded. load info for a 308 with a 18 1/2" bbl may not be easy to find though. even if you only got 2500 fps, with a premium bullet & 200 yds or less you'd still be ok. each bullet has an optimum velocity for peak performance, and the partition is a wide range. figure a 170 gr 30-30 is lucky to reach 2,000 fps.
