hey guys im gonna put some braided line on my quantum reel i was thinking #50 braid but thing is im not gonna be able to afford to spool that whole reel it uses alot. so i was wondering could i out #30 cajun mono on it for backing then put some braid over it? i have mono backing on my baitcasters and i like it. the quantum uses ALOT of line where can i get braided line at a reasonable price. what size should i go with? im gonna upgrade the rod. whats a affordable rod spinning medium heavy action? i was thinking a shakespeare ugly stick. but im gonna go to bridgemasters and see if they have any first.
I've never had an issue running mono into braid. I have a couple rods I used for trolling for grouper that I have set up like that, as it's easier to get deep with braid. Just make sure your knots are sound.
yea thats what i was worrying about with the saltwater setup. i will need a good knot.
The type of knot is going to vary depending on personality, what your daddy taught you, and what size line you are using. The knots I use for heavy mono and braid isn't gonna work for the lighter stuff. Surely you can google it and find a bunch of effective knots.
the reel is a big one. i got 45 mono on it now
