i like it the way it is as i have never shot a deer. There are already a number of wma's with rules like this. And as far as private land goes, no freakin way would i want somebody from the state telling me what i could do on my land, the counties and states already have enough control over property.
Well just like england, you mite own the land but the deer are the state of Florida's. funny how
our fore fathers came over here to be free and in couple hundred years we are in the same boat.
We don't own anything unless we pay the tax or the goverment will take it away............just my
opion. So take it with a grain of salt.
If the State enacted a 3-pt. rule it would be a difficult thing to enforce on all the private lands without having to create additional rules (laws) that would require check statons for all deer taken. More employees, more paper work, more bureaucracy....Some folks will abide by whatever rules are in place and some will simply ignore and hope not to get caught, just like folks living in states that require gun registration, only the law abiding comply.
The area I live in, as an example, folks could simply kill a deer on the back 40 and drag it to the house and process it without notifying anyone. This activity goes on year round all across the state in spite of rules. Those of us who abide by the rules will simply be inconvienced by having to show the State our legal harvest, the others don't care either way.
When faced with antler restrictions everyone must participate or it will not work. Our small lease, only 340 acres, tried a 6- pt. rule years ago and we ended up killing very few deer that year, but all the adjoining properties had plenty of well fed venison to eat. When a deer jumps the fence all your work and expense is in some other hunter's hands. Large leases usually have rules that include antler restrictions and make provision for the children that hunt.
Accompanying a state or area wide 3-pt. rule should be the inclusion of anterless deer being legal all season long. A 3-pt rule can only be enforced effectivly on WMAs where legal hunters come and go through a check point. Private land is just that, private!
My opinion, Treefarmer
only way to grow bigger deer.. But in florida if you dont shoot it and follow the rules someone else is gonna get it especially a poacher..
Thats a fact.................
