I really don't see any sense in checking deer. You know how many hundreds get run over everyday? And I bet poachers kill just as many as hunters do. Unless it's in a controlled are like a lease or WMA,and in my lease we record all game killed, and some folks still don't sign the book.

I'm not proposing that we should check-in deer.....I agree, I don't think it's a good idea.

Attempting to get an accurate estimate of # of killed isn't a bad idea though, as it can be a valuable management tool.

I'm with ya, Vonnick52. When I had a lease up in Bear Creek the last 2 years, I had to drive 40 minutes to get cell coverage. When I'd go up for a week (weekend to weekend), sometimes I wouldn't come out of the woods till the last day. Had everything I needed for the whole stay w/o leaving the woods, generator, ice, coolers, water, food, and a dry comfy trailer to sleep and eat in.

I'm fine with it as long as we have 24 hours to call after the recovery.

Indiana has a 48 hour check in policy which is ok but Florida has some large tracks with little to nothing nearby.I would think if they would allow hunters that take game to fill out a report at the end of each season or seasons that would be suffice.Only as long as it will be used for the purpose of better hunting and not restricting hunting.
