Why a 4 point rule? What's the diference if your only allowed to kill 4 or 5 bucks or deer in general. You know everytime you kill a doe your killing lots of button bucks with her as well. Maybe we should get tags for a certain amount of deer, once you fill them your done hunting. If you want to continue to hunt, don't kill the little bucks, wait for something nicer. Think of all the clowns that will stay out of the woods.

I'm not gonna disagree with ya, SA. In my opinion, there should be a tag program of some sort, that limits how many total deer you can take. But, I also believe that there should be measures put in place to reduce the number of younger bucks being taken. If you put a 4pt or better limit on bucks, more hunters will be more willing to take a doe or two. The tag and 4pt rule would show benefits in less than 2 years. If you figure that there are many hunters out there that would take a doe to fill the freezer rather than take nothing, because of the 4pt rule. The current regs for doe season should be relaxed some to include more days. By reducing the overall number of doe, the herds will start to show a more natural buck to doe ratio, rather than the 17:1 or more that is the current rate. (Ratios on privately owned land may vary depending on the type of QDM plan in place.)
I know that regs to limit bucks by a minimum number of points are a hot topic that can be argued by both sides of the fence. But, you can't deny the actual results in states like PA and NY where the deer populations are thriving even after they added pt rules and opened up more doe hunting.
Of course, there are hunters that would rather see just deer when they hunt, and increasing the number of doe harvested will reduce the overall number of deer in the herd. But, it will also increase the quality and overall health of the remaining deer.

I don't know the answer, all I know is that we have a lot of deer in this state.I'm not against bag limits but some places need deer thinned out and some need more game and less hunters. You know what's good for your land fldxt, I personally think they should not restrict antlers anywhere. If you don't want to kill a small buck, don't. If you want to trophy hunt on your own land,go for it. Public land I don't give a shit what they do,unless they let more hunters in the gates.

the county i'm in in georgia is a qdm county. both bucks have to have 4 points on 1 side. But you are allowed 10 does. Now button bucks do get shot, and as long as no horn is breaking the skin, it counts as a doe. granted the part of georgia i'm in has ALOT of deer. What i have seen happen was that after 5 years of being qdm the lease prices went through the roof, because the odds of taking large horned deer went up.
