I've used it on a stump and on a wet spot on the ground and it worked good both times. I was using it before and during archery season. I tried the acorn flavored salt block and something hauled it away in a few days.
Not sure what deer cane is made out of. I know any minerals either blocks, powders, or liquids used in your hunting woods will help keep your deer healthier. The problem with them is guys use them thinking they are a daily attractant. Definately not the case. Deer will find them, and come back when there bodies are requiring more minerals. This may be every few days for awhile, or once a week to once a month. maybe longer. I know I hunted an area in GS where I had to walk by a guys ladder on a regulas basis. I hunted this spot for several years, and the guy was definately using some sort of mineral concoction. Over the course of a couple years the game turned an old stump into a pit several feet deep, and several feet across.
I agree slick. And most of the mineral site usage is in the spring-summer. I've got another site at another stand with little usage. I put a 50# red mineral block on a pine stump last spring. There's still 5-10# of the block left and the stump has been worked on a little, but nothing like this new spot. I was up there this past weekend and they have dug it out even more
