at homosassa it's considered a small game area even though you can hunt hog, which I wouldn't exactly call small game. all I know is the people working the gate say it's AOK for mzl's, even though I personaly like to have a back up shot ready fast if needed, especialy for something hard to kill and potentialy dangerous like hogs. I pretty much like to be 95% sure that animal is gonna drop in it's tracks before I squeeze the trigger, but they can always move at the last sec, so nothings a certainty

Could use a muzzle loading shotgun could you not? Also a mossy 835 with the slug bbl would make a good all round firearm.

yes, but I prefer the mdl 500's cuz there are so many more bbl selections and after market stocks etc, plus I rarely use the 3 1/2" shells, and if I want to I have the benelli. but you are right. one shotgun and a bunch of diff bbl's and youv'e got alot of diff options

at chazz you are allowed to hunt with rifle, at homosassa its shotgun, muzleloader or 22 mag, no centerfires. now I'm new to hunting fla and hogs but have hunted deer and alot of birds since 1976. heading north on rt 19 chazz is 10 mi north of rt 50 ( cortez blvd ) and homosassa is about another 6 mi. if you don't have a tree stand shots will be close, sometimes extremely close in the thick brush and palmettos, if you happen to catch a deer or hog in an open field ( not to likely ) shots may reach 200 yds or so. for a rifle if you want a scope and don't reload I'd recomend a 308 in a short bbl light gun like the rem mdl 7,ruger ultra light or browning a-bolt, to name a few. for scopes theres alot of debate, personaly I like the option of a very low power 1-2 on the low end variable to 4-8 on the upper end with as large an objective lens as possible, alot of people like the 3x9x50. you could do very well with a lever action winchester or marlin with open sights as well. for a one gun system that can realy do it all a mossberg mdl 500 combo in camo with a 24" smoothbore is good for turkey, buckshot and rifled slugs, and the second bbl a rifled 24" with cantilever for a scope for using sabot slugs that can reach out to 150 yds or more, there are alot of bbls to choose from and are about 100$ each. there are extensive threads about which gun and scope to use.how much and what type of hunting have you done?

I have been qual hunting (a very long time ago) outside Tucson, AZ...went bow hunting for deer in the White Mtns of Northern AZ just over a year ago (did not have a bow then, but went stalking/glassing with some guys to get the feel for it), went Hog hunting here in FL about 4 months ago. No luck with getting close enough to anything to hit but have seen a bunch during the hunts to get the bug and excited about the next step.

Might have to take a trip up to those areas you mentioned..so, is the Marlin Slug gun for rifle shot ok in both areas? abit confused here?
