Its been a while. I had not been fishing in a few weeks due to kids getting sick and some recent hunting trips. It was great to get back out. This post is late for the same reason. Just like fishing.... sometimes you just have to make time!
ReelMojo and I got out there Thurs last week in the eve. Its weird launching when there is not a soul at the ramp. It was calm and as the evening started what little chop was there, laid right down. The sunset was AWESOME. (sorry the photos are grainy) This is absolutely what I live here for. It was quiet except for the occasional bird and fish swirling.
It was not a stellar trip for fishing but we still caught fish. The high point of the whole trip was the Tarpon rolling. At the end of the outgoing tide, they were all around the boat. We were bottom fishing and catching some short grouper , grunts and sheepshead. when we pulled th chum bag up, we figured out what the Tarpon were hitting on the surface.... You got it. Crabs! What we did catch to take home were caught on sardines, live shrimp and gulp.
The water was glassy on the way back and it was an easy ride back in. It was good to just be out there. The temps were great and it was another reminder of why I love Tampa Bay.
I ended up smoking these fish and WOW they were good that way!

ive been hearing reports of the tarpon coming north. i fish with a guide down in charlotte harbor and he said the smaller ones are in along the west wall and the bigger ones are going to be in the pass any day. we changed out a broken tub in his house and have a trip booked on the 23rd. hope to get some pics of a silverking and whatever else we can get in to the boat.
