with the kids it's gonna be tough cuz there just gonna outgrow it. but for pure performance, and this is JUST ME. I like the lightest wt high wicking performance fabrics next to my skin then layer lightly as needed topped with something wind repellant if realy cold. I like the "old school wool and heavy oiled cotton fabrics" on top of the 1st layer. cc filson makes some very good stuff but also $$. their double tin jacket and pants will last severall lifetimes unless shredded on barbed wire.are just about completely thorn and briar proof as well as very water repellant if treated once every few years as instructed and NEVER washed with soap.

Check the weather too, it's going to be in the 70's here in the panhandle. Don't believe you will have to worry about him getting cold. Good luck to the both of you.
