Getting ammo at Wally World is part timing, and mostly luck.
I spoke at length to a few of the "sporting goods clerks" and this is what I found out.
All Walmarts (heck most stores that carry ammo) are in a ammo shortage. And because of this the shelves are barren. What the "Main" warehouse usually does is to wait until an order has been filled and then ship it out. Because there is no way to fill each stores ammo order, do to the shortage, what Walmart has beeen doing is shipping partial orders of ammo divided evenly among the stores it services. They recieve the truck shipment in the early morning hours(read when its still dark mid-night to 4am) They then will stock the ammo shelves, or put them in the back until the "Sporting goods clerk" is ready to put them on the shelves when they arrive in the morning(usually in by 7am) At least here in Pinellas county.
Now the best way to get ammo is to be at the sporting goods counter when the clerk shows up, again usually around 7am. If they have any "new" ammo it should be there. Also there is usually not a line. Now in S. St. Pete, a city ordinance prevents them from selling ammo until 9am. I was able to get there at 8:45 talk to the clerk and he put 2, 100rd boxes of .45 ACP aside until 9am when he could sell it to me.
In one morning, I hit 5 wal-marts in our arrea, and was able to come home with 2 boxes of 00 12ga, buckshot, a 50rd box of 9mm JHP, 200 rds, of 9mm FMJ, and 200rds of .45 fmj
The other day, I noticed skads of .40 cal S&W fmj white-box on the shelves. and was able to pick up 50rds, of .45 JHP by shear luck. Again first thing in the morning. I make a run by a Wal-mart each morning at 7am and buy what I can afford if they have what I need.

i checked walmart after i returned the crap that didn't work, they did not have anything i needed for the project except glue. i went to dicks and they had the lights, so i bought two at 4 bucks a piece. they did not have any 'clear' colors only solid green, so i will pick up a couple of nocks elsewhere and do this very simple project.
