i'd leave the scope off. the 30-30 is a great brush cutter. it's perfect for florida hunting. once you get efficient shooting iron sights, you'll do as well, and in many cases better than some guys with scopes. and don't be affraid of taking a 200 yard shot, she'll do it happily, plus she'll cut through the palmettos if needed where the faster bullets will start to fall apart.

if you must use a scope. get a good one for that gun. i know a few guys who had repeated empty casings hitting the scope knock their scope out. one of my friends even had the cross hairs break in one. i don't recall the scope brand they were using though.
