I have the same set up on my 30-06. See thru rings were very helpful back in my dog runnin days
my gun is made for long range and does not come with any iron sights at all.. so all i can do is scope.
Yup my 7mm was like that . I hated it!!!!! Thats the gun I missed the buck with. I raised my gun at a huge running deer at 40 yards and all I could see was brown,grass,brown,grass,brown,palmettos and he was gone.
crock, check out burrisoptics.com, get the phone # call and talk to one of the techy's tell them the make and mdl of gun and the particular scope. now having a scope only is no disadvantage if you choose the right scope to fit you/the game/ and the type of hunting you will be doing. try this close your eyes & mount the gun to your shoulder with your cheek firmly on the stock, then open your eyes, if you are not looking clearly thru the scope, or if it is too close or too far away, then its not positioned correctly for you.I think the problem that other writer had was too much magnification and not enough field of view for a close shot at running game. alot of magnification is nice at the range or for ground hogs, or if you have a very steady rest but for a hand held shot 1-7 power is plenty out to 200 yards or so ( my opinion only) and the lower the power the wider the field of view and greater light gathering. I can make a faster more accurate shot on close running deer with my leupold 1.5x5 variable ( on 1.5 setting) than with my open sighted winchester lever.now I don't want to start an argument but I think those see thru mounts are the worst of both worlds the gun can only fit properly in one position you would have to take your cheek off the stock to use one sighting system. it's the basic jack of all trades master of none. thats why I always bring one scoped gun and one with open sights. again theese are my opions only , whatever floats your boat.
