I still haven't shot my new win mag yet and am going to hopefully this week. My question is what would be the best round to shoot out of it for deer hunting.I don't want to hear for what size deer or it's to large, just tell me what grain and what style would be best for knocking a deer or hog on it's ass at any distance. I bought a box of 150 grn power points, that seem ok?

Seems about right for open area shooting. A little heavier bullet would be better if ur hunting in some deep stuff. It will hold together better if you have to take a shot where it might hit some small brush between you and your target.

150 grains is about the lightest bullet for that caliber that will hold together on impact ( if a good quality brand to start with) and the least punishing for the shooter as well. without looking at the books I'd say for under 2-300yds the 200 grain would have a better sectional density, more smackdown and be better in brush. great for big hogs but overkill for skinny deer. if you can afford it try 150,180 and 200 and see what you shoot best. I'm partial to the nosler partition bullets avail in federal supremes.

I shoot 150 gr core lock out of my 300 win mag and have shot at least 10 hogs with it from 5 to 100 yds, don't know about sectional density and all that but I do know they lay the smack down.

I shoot reloaded (by a friend) 165 gr SST's in my .300 weatherby, and they really blow a hole in whatever it hits......
