Got a question for you guys that are in the know when it comes to guns. I've heard some bad stuff about the 770 and was curious if it was as bad as I've heard. I see them for sale pretty cheap with a cheap scope. My buddies at BPS tell me that it's a sh_t gun and they've got a lot of guns being sent back. I've handled a few of them now and they all seem to have loose fitting bolts which is the complaint I've heard the most. One of the guys I hunt with has one and he says it shoots great. He did say that when putting another shell in that you have to watch how you do it so the bolt doesn't get jammed up. I wouldn't mind getting a few other rifles on the list but figured I'd put it out there first. Down where I'm at they're about $400 but my buddy is finding the same ones for a hair less than $300 and I'm thinking hmmm. What do ya'll think? And before you say it I know there are much better guns but just wanted to know if anyone has any personal experience with the 770 and what their thoughts were. Thanks in advance.
it's obvious that they are cutting every corner possible to produce a gun that costs them as little as possible to make and charge you as much as the market will bear, they will flood the market with poorly made crap and values/re-sale will never go up and you will be stuck with a gun that you wished you had saved up a little more and looked a little harder for something better every time you use it. the guns I spent way more on than I could afford I never regretted buying, used for 20-30 yrs and sold for more than I paid for them. do you think they are going to spend any extra money to make sure the inside of those barrels are smooth and free of scratches and tool marks? or the triggers are not too heavy, and free of grit, and have a smooth light trigger pull?imo buy an old classic and have it re-barreled and trigger job if needed and you will have something that would cost severall thousand for them to make today.
Nacho is right on target. Remington came out with the 770 to be competitive price wise with all the other "lower end" gun manufacturers. They did the same thing with the 870 when they made the Express model which almost ruined the 870 until they reintroduced the Wingmaster and about 8 other configurations of the 870. For $300-$400 you can find a great older used Rem. 700, Rug. M77, Browning A-bolt, or Win. M70 and as my friend nacho would say "make it a project" by rebuilding it, restocking it, adding optics, refinishing it, trigger job, rebarrel, etc. and make it a gun that will last another 30 years and would cost you $1800-$3500 for a custom gun to be made. Don't waste your money on junk because that's what you'll have in 10-30 years, junk.
I have a Winchester model 67 22 LR single shot that my grandfather bought in 1934 for $7.00 which was the top of the line .22LR in 1934. It functions and fires as well today as it did then. It is as accurate as my Ruger M77/22 with a target grey medium weight barrel. They are now selling for between $175-$250 depending upon condition, bore, and blueing. Figure out that appreciation rate over 76 years. Had he bought 500 of them in 34 for $3,500.00 they would be worth $87,000-$125,000 today.

Thanks for the input guys. I knew the right answer but guess I needed to be told. I'll wait and get the guns I really want.

I've never heard that an express was a lower end 870. I have an old wingmaster and an express. I actually thought the express was a nicer gun. As far as the 770,I've only had 700's but have heard all the same things as you. My two new 700's make me shoot like a sniper. I only had a chance to shoot up to 100 yards but am looking forward to 200-300.
