The best hunting handgun i have used is a S&W 500 with the 8 3/4" barrel with iron sights. I carry it in an uncle Mikes holster, it is a bite heavy but it gets the job done. I have used it in both FL and TN and it is a true one shot kill. I also have a custom Glock 32 with an elongated barrel that is set up for hog hunting. I have never tried it but this year I am going to use it. I think with the Glock I will do head shots only. :gangsta

As for revolvers, the best feeling big frames I've shot were the Taurus and Rossi, which are pretty similar.

taurus bought rossi a few years back.

Don't know if you're still looking, but one of the pawn shops I frequent has 2 Thompson CF hunter handguns. I don't know what they're asking for them, but they look nice. Gimme a PM if you want the name of the place.
