Most every "shade tree" knife maker I have met makes them out of old files.
I would like to try it one day. I did some looking into it and the basics don't look that hard
Do a search on AT and you'll find a great thred about making knifes out of old saw blades. Step by step with pics.
I have that Ka-Bar. It is a really nice knife but I find it to be short and to stubby for skinning. I have a Browning that I have NEVER sharpened after skinning and gutting over 20 animals ( hog and deer). The below is the best knife that I have ever owned. I carry it it the field for the saw and I like one knife for skinning and gutting. It is also non slip. Once again, it is the best knife that I have ever owned.
