I've used many diff products over the years and don't shoot anywhere near as much as I did In my 30's and am running low and was curious if you guys have any particular brands you rave about. I currently use shooters choice as a general solvent and break free in aeresol or liquid for lube, and it's been so long since I used a strict copper cleaner I forgot what brand it was, but it worked good, just don't let it sit in the bbl too long or it can etch/ harm the bbl. I was just looking thru cabellas and was thinking of shooters choice gen solvent, montanna x treme gen slvent and seperate copper cleaner ( best value), butches bore cleaner and sweets. any thoughts/favs/ recomendations ? a pint generaly lasts me about 10 yrs now for solvents as I've cut way back on shooting due to $$. if I'm gonna spend 2-3$ for a premium round I want some meat on the ground.
I like the foaming Bore Snake and Nitro Solvent. I've used quite a bit of the Nitro brand products over the years, and I've never noticed a problem, but the foaming Bore Snake is about the most effective at removing built up deposits in my experience anyways. I've had to clean several of my FIL's guns that hadn't been cleaned in a while, and regular solvent works, but I end up going thru so many patches until I get a clean patch. The foaming bore cleaner takes fewer patches and definitely fewer applications to clean the metal and powder deposits.
Same here. I spent 3 hours and 3 boxes of patches cleaning my FIL's 10/22 with Nitro, and then ended up using the bore cleaner, and it was like night and day. Only took like 4 patches to get it totally clean, and 2 more to run the gun oil down the barrel.
never tried the foam, 1 can will work on powder, plastic and copper? you talkin about the birchwood casey brand stuff from walmart? never put much trust in anything they sell there.
Hoppes old no 9 powder solvent is all I use. Luckily none of my barrels foul and they all seem to like being fired a little dirty. Got one that just keeps shooting better and better.
