I bet it has something to do with the fact that he's trying to carry less weight, not more.
tree stand is only 18 lbs. steeps and the sling cant be much different. 4- 6 ladder steps will weigh more than a climber stand. i could see not carrying my old tree lounge at 30 +
My titan is the lightest of the 3 climbers I own. It weighs 25 lbs. My web weighs just under 9 lbs. 10 of my Stepp ladder steps weigh under 10 lbs. The cranford steps weigh 9 1/2 oz. each. I'll be going with 10 of the strap on Cranford steps and 3 Stepp ladder steps for a platform. That will put me 20' + to the seat. The whole set up carries much easier than a climber strapped to my back. I can also pretty much hunt any tree that will hold my weight and don't have to find a straight limbless pine to hunt. I could go out and get a light weight lock on but I also want to be comfortable for the all day sits. I can honestly say that the web is more comfortable than my titan, buckshot or API Grandslam with a summit seat.
I've seen where some guys are going with titanium bolts instead of the screw in steps. Some of them have less than 9 lbs. total in their set ups when using a treesaddle. I'll be using the web on public land for the most part so screw in steps or bolts aren't an option. For me this is a work in progress and I'm enjoying putting it all together. I'm still trying to get used to hanging by a rope though.
thats why you got that eye bolt in the ceiling of your bedroom, so you can "practice", j.k. surprized I never thought of that one.
to me it doesn't look like something i like to shoot out of. that from some one who has hung off the side of tree lounge to take a shoot. good luck let us know it works
