Also, you don't have to have a scope on your rifle. I bet I've killed a lot more game with iron sites than with a scope. I think to many people never learn how to shoot a rifle correctly or accurately. My 6 year old boys are learning to shoot their new red ryders at targets with just sites. I also made my older son kill his first buck with a .243 no scope.
Skunk Ape, hang some paper plate sized targets on a string so they move for the kids, then progressively make the targets smaller until they can hit ping pong balls. train em right, way to go.
We had a hog caught Sat and I went in to get it. You could here it squealing a long way off. It wasn't the worst place to catch one but it was a little rough. We had a hold of it and next thing I see is Clay busting in there with his bb gun,kid is fearless.Climbed off the box and busted out about 75 yards on his own, came right to the bay all by himself.I think I'm creating a hog hunting monster.
The gun has no iron sights, but I already have the money saved up to buy a scope.
So, what would be the difference between a 3-9 X 40mm and 50mm scope?
if hunting from the ground shots will be from 10 feet to maybe 50 yds and often at running game, so the lowest power is best, it helps you get on target faster. if yor in a tree range will be longer, but unless your watching fields or something very open were still talking app 20 - 75 yds.
I completely agree with your distances, I dont believe ill be doing any open field, so I just need the scope for ground and tree.
when you decide on a scope. when it is mounted--- you want it to be as close to the barrel as possible WITHOUT touching it.
