You heard it here, folks. Straight from the words of El Supremo Nacholito...

talked to the guy at the post office today and papa t-bone is correct. they strongly recomend not having anything showing that identifies it as a gun ( guess they are still worried about theft, or some anti re-routing it to another planet ) and absolutely no mailing of ammo from usps, maybe another carrier will ship ammo but there will be a hazmat fee. other option is buy ammo when you get there and re-zero. but definately register/insure and ship to yourself in care of.

:clap

I always use UPS, the USPS sucks when shipping Firearms since so few people use them anymore. Most FFL's will only ship UPS since the USPS sucks at it. I have shipped long guns and hand guns back to the manufactures, to myself in another state, to my father - ICO myself, and to gun smiths without problems, hassles or delays via UPS... You can pack them at UPS with bubble wrap and make sure you box them up really well.... Have done it 12 or more times.... No FFL required since you're aren't transferring ownership, your shipping your personal property...

As for handguns, UPS will ship them also but USPS won't, but you better make sure that whatever state they are going to doesn't have any screwy pistol permit or pistol license laws like New York State does... Send one to New York State via UPS and you won't have anything to pick-up on the other end....
