And I also found this that is directly related to your situation. IMHO, this is the exact info that you are looking for.
May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?
Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the state where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.
For more information about mailing, go to the U.S.P.S.' Postal Explorer and type in "firearms" in the search box.
talked to the guy at the post office today and papa t-bone is correct. they strongly recomend not having anything showing that identifies it as a gun ( guess they are still worried about theft, or some anti re-routing it to another planet ) and absolutely no mailing of ammo from usps, maybe another carrier will ship ammo but there will be a hazmat fee. other option is buy ammo when you get there and re-zero. but definately register/insure and ship to yourself in care of.
I bet a guy could make some money renting guns during hunting season for travelers.Thinkf all the headaches you's save having a gun waiting for you when you showed up to hunt.
if it's less than 10 hours I'd rather drive and avoid the shipping and airport scene
