not saying anyone is breaking the laws, just stating what the law says. I know folks break it all the time. I am not going to do anything about it either. I am just saying that if you want to take the chance well then go ahead.

When I use the word "YOU" I am meaning everyone, not you, Iluv2hunt, specifically, so I am sorry if I made it sound like I was directing my comments at Iluv2hunt.

The fact that they sell radios that put out 30 watts is not breaking the law. In fact myself as a licensed amatuer radio operator can within the law operate that radio, at full power and be within my rights to do so because of my license. Now the store or seller does not have to check to see that the person buying the radio has a license for the radio either. That's not breaking the law.

But operating that radio without a valid license at full power or (30Watts) is breaking the law.

You can walk into most ham radio stores, and buy a radio that will put out 100-250 watts on most frequencies, and most salesmen wont ask you for your ham license, but if you use the radio without the proper license, then you are breaking the law.

Again, the word YOU in all my statements above referes to EVERYONE, and not anyone specificaly.

I am just sharing the knowledge I have of the subject, so everyone can make an informed decision on their own.

flhuntfish, a fried radio is usually the cause of not having a properly tuned antenna connected to the radio when transmitting.

The finals (power amplifying part of the radio) are very sensitive and if you transmit without an antenna, or without a properly tuned antenna you stand a good chance of frying them. Again I said most times this is the cause, but other factors can also cause radios to fail. Bad power supplies, improper grounding, improper tuning of the radio, low-quality or cheap parts used in manufaccturing the radio, and a myriad of other reasons.
