have never used a trail cam with an IR flash. is the range longer then a traditional flash or about the same. my moultrie with a flash the range is about 20 feet or so.

my mistake, my flash range on my regular flash is about 40 feet.

i think ir is shorter.. but i really want the moultrie i40 nom matter what the range is.!

Not sure but their is a real good site that does reviews on trail cams. I'll see if I can find it.
