Here's a story for you to contemplate.
Great article, Toby. In GA, it's mandatory on public and private land to wear the orange during gun season. My dad's club has a lease up in GA and a rule that orange must be worn anywhere on the lease outside the camp area during shooting hours. When I'm up there I keep an extra orange vest on my 4-wheeler "just in case". If I get a chance to hunt the FL WMAs you can bet your sweet bippy I'll have plenty of blaze orange on!
You have to on WMA's in FL but not on Private land...at least that is how I understand it.
It's the law in Florida to have five hundred square inches of blaze orange visible above the waist in Florida on both public and private lands while deer hunting; except during the period of the general archery season or as otherwise stated during late season archery hunts on WMA's.
Err on the side of caution...wear the orange!

While I believe it should be worn by all during gun seasons, here is what it says in the 2010-2011 Florida Hunting Regulations:
Hunter orange requirement
It is unlawful to hunt deer or to accompany another person hunting deer on public lands unless each person is wearing a minimum of 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange material as an outer garment. Such clothing must be worn above the waistline and can include a head covering. This rule does not apply during archery season.
Toby, do you know of a specific regulation somewhere that says it is mandatory on private land in Florida?
