Windy days hunt, deer will move find the correct hot spots!
Super gusty, hunt overgrown clear cuts, hunt heavy cover with open edges where deer have a good visual point.Try finding core browse area's in or near low bottoms!(Always look for these area's but they are hard to find) Rainy hunt! Deer will tend to group up when conditions become bad enough that 2 senses are at there weakest.Because the lack of or loss of 1 or 2 the deer become very easy to pattern because they will hold to area's more stable to "them". When you are talking about major weather changes look before and after fronts to have good deer movement because severe weather does stop many game animals.
when it was windy or rainy is south carolina this weekend, the deer did not move at all. literally 5 minutes after it stopped, the deer were up and moving. it was blowing pretty hard though, which made the woods kind of noisy.
yea the reason why they were bedding is cause of wind (cant keep smell) and rain (cant hear) once one of them stopped and they had 2 sences working they got up and moved.
yeah. that and when its rainy and windy and :censoredty outside, i want to be bedded down to.
Actually the deer bed down theory has been proven wrong it is not until higher wind speeds that deer lose their sense of smell and they don't lose it ,it just becomes confusing. In low to lite med wind speeds up to around 10 mph deer have the advantage over us with their nose and ears. Also studies have shown that in the correct area's of travel during heavy wind speeds that some movement increases and that deer then like to be in more open area's. In the more open terrain deer have the advantage over us again with the increased ability to see!Deer eyesight in low light conditions is greatly enhanced compared to humans because of the difference in photoreseptors(rod/cone) in their eyes that pick up light.
There are other factors like temperature, thermals that are very important in deer movement as is hunting pressure,food....All these have to be added in when placing stands in locations that feel right to us!
