How much wind is needed to affect deer movement? I was going to hunt on Saturday, but it was blowing at least 15+ in the afternoon. I didn't want to be in a tree swaying back and forth. I sat for a few hours on Sunday afternoon, but didn't see any movement either. It was blowing between 12-14 then. Is this enough to make them lay down and wait till the wind slows? I was told that deer don't generally move too much when it's windy because they can't use their sense of smell as well. All of the movement makes it harder to see any predator.
What do you guys think?

remember this.. deer have 3 main sences that they use.. smell, hearing, and sight. whenever 2 of them will be affected they will stay bedded.. for instance.. if its raining and windy they will not move.. they will not be able to smell with a wild wind and they will not be able to hear with a loud rain.

if its dark and windy they cant see and smell.. they will bed.

deer ned two of their sences all the time at peak or they will bed.

ect.

i agree with crock up until it has been bad conditions for 2-3 days. they do need to eat. generally they will bed down for about 1 day. will sneak out and eat. bad conditions for the deer, put the advantage in your favor. stalking would be the way to hunt in rainy windy conditions.

on my lease i have some big bottoms. if it is windy, they will still move but stay to the bottoms. wind is not as bad.
