Shotgun with slugs or 30-30 is the preferred gun of choice where I hunt in the thick stuff. Cypress swamp or palmettos make it hard to get much use out of a 30-06. Plus I like sloshing through the mud and swamp getting up close and personal. Someday i'll have to try bow hunting.

Mossy 500, Accu Choke, 2 ea 00 Buck and rifled slugs
I have my 308 but always have my benelli 12 ga 26" with me in the blind for 40 yrds and under and for yotes...Just remember, Buckshot equals gut shot every time, your slug depending on the brand/type and a scope will serve you well. Be sure to take it out, range and adjust the scope, even with your barrel you will be OK.
Can't beat 00 Buck to stop a runner in the thick stuff. Put the bead on his nose and squeeze the trigger, repeating till he's down, out of range, or you're out of ammo.
