DId I make up my mind?
Nope LOL
All of the advise sounds great I guess I have to figure out which one now.
I was looking a the remington 700 as the gun platform, and it comes in almost all of these calibers.
308 was another choice because well, I am fond of the 7.63x59 military cartridge, but being that it is a military cartridge was leaning away from it as it is hard to find in the local wally world. Hence my choice of 270, which was pretty much on the shelf in any Wallyworld I have been in lately.
I will revisit this after the season is over, and my gun shopping gets more serious. Right now its all about getting my stupid truck fixed and hittin the woods with whatever is left of the season...
I have the 270wsm in a browning A- bolt, nice gun, but so is the 308. the 308 is a nato round and can shoot military ammo and the civilian brands, and I thinh it will be more avail then 270, or 270 wsm especialy if the s.h.t.f.
Just recently purchased a Thompson Center Venture .270 and put a Bushnell 3x9 50mm on it. Final price was around $700, little more than I wanted to spend, but am very pleased with it. The rifeling is superb, nice recoil pad on it also. Thompson made a real nice piece for the price thats for sure. It's definitly not an Icon, but it's still nice! My next purchase will most definitly be a .308 auto. I don't mind bolt action, but would definitly like something faster when dogging or sitting watch.
benelli makes an awesome auto rifle in 308 ( and other calibers, the wsm's) but very pricey. I can't afford one, not for now anyway.
