So to sum it up deer are generally were most think there not.
Or perhaps where people are not willing and/or able to go.
After we get done reveiwing this one, I think I am going to upload an aerial as well and get some opinions. I have a new lease that's never been hunted, I have some ideas but would like to hear from hunters with more experience.
Maybe on private land but as for public there always some one willing. Usally one of my friends or myself.
Fair enough Ted, we are going to have to do some hunting together this season. I am always looking to go where most will not. Where did you put in for gun season? Based upon your posts, you must live pretty close to me.
Rock springs then toso. Toso is a meat hunt but i have see some big deer there. My bud Dan shot that 127 2 years ago from his old spot. I saw it in BP running away. Last year i did not get to hunt because of an accident and my grandmother in law was on here death bed. So i really looking forward to it this year. If i don't get a permit i most likely will be in Tiger bay or the st johns.
I have marked up the aerial to depict what I seen while out scouting a couple of months ago.
The yellow lines at top represent a ridge of pine trees that sit higher than the cypress on both sides of it. This seems like a nice funnel and the cypress has standing water in it. Would you sit at either end or pick a spot in the middle and cut shooting lanes so that you pick off the game moving east to west?
The yellow lines at the bottom represent another large stand of pines on very dry land completely surronded on 3 sides by wet cypress. The orange represents the logging road, while walking this road we seen a number of games trails (green lines) intersecting it heading into and out of the pine stand. How would you approach setting up in this pine stand? It is large enough in size that you can not see all the way through due to the canopy of varying heights.
I liked the idea of setting up a ground blind in the middle of the logging road. I had thought about stringing some of those bump feeders right over the road on both sides of the blind to help stop the aninals who were crossing it long enough to get a shot off.
I have yet to get down to the southwest corner where it opens up nicely but will be sure to have a stand at that location as well. Let me know what you think.
Bump...don't everyone answer at once, not looking for any trade secrets just some general knowledge on setting up properly
Truthfully i don't like sitting on the ground. Archery i love sitting over water. Walking thru the water to the stand , to help keep my scent trail down. I never hunt with feeders
