Can you use one during small game season? I don't see anthing excluding crossbows.

Yes they are legal unless otherwise stated for that wma

The main word is "only" Unfortunately more and more WMA's are going this rout :no If it says shotgun and rimfire ONLY thats all you can use.

You might want to check into a "drawlock". It is an addition to a bow that locks the string back in a full draw postition and has a trigger just like a realease. My wife's grandpa went to Africa and they have to draw a certain poundage in some areas to take a water buffalo, he is 70 years old and couldn't draw it back so he bought a whisper creek(?) with a draw lock. Our uncle had to cock it for him but it did the job.

I've seen those. Pretty cool!
