The details are not out yet, but I'm already looking forward to checking this place out. Maybe some of you guys in the Spring Hill area already know about this place. What's it like? Are there many hogs there like in some of the Swiftmud areas like Flatwoods Park?
I think its a start....But these lands are purchased with tax dollers and everyone who pays taxes should be able to use these lands for all activities as long as you are not destroying the land or enviroment. These lands are for watershed and they should be just like state forrest. SWFWMD is a big drain on Florida budget, do we realy need them, what do they do. There are some big salaries doing what. I see the guy ride around the lake in my backyard and he looks like he is just riding around, then they showed up again and sprayed some trees trees for 5 hours and I donot see what that accomplished. All I see is airboats and new trucks every 4 years to do what. Don't we have a forestry Dept. that takes care of our state. We need this special Dept. to do what. Measure the waterlevels and tell us we are in a drout, come on.
I have live by this weekiwhachee preseare for 40 years and have only seen a few deer. Whoever gets drawn I hope you don't mind walking alot because there are very little roads in there and access points.
SWFTMUD screwed us again. The out of the tracts proposed they gave us crap. Weeki Wachee was the tract with the least amount of potential, and the hunts are not gonna be quotas from what I understand. There are gonna be 5 6 day archery hunts with no quota. I have a feeling the place will be over run with hunters. The Panasoffkee tract has excellent potential for deer, turkey, and hog, but here again we will not be allowed to harvest any of these animals. Just small game, and being under 600 acres with 1 access point, and no quota you could see a pressure problem there as well. The best tract proposed, and supported the most by the FWC was the Halpata Preserve. This place is over 8000 acres with limited human presence, and an abundance of game. They shot this place down all together most likely due to the presence of the Scrub Jay, and some powerful peoples personal agendas. I am real disappointed with the results of this B.S. A lot hunters, and a few well spoken individuals that hunt, and represent hunters have put in a lot of there own time to get us access to land. Land that we have as much right to enjoy as any other group, and SWFTMUD gave them all a slap in the face.
I am so sick of these libretards using the scrub jay defense. If you put 600 hunters in 600 acres every day for a month, you would do exactly zero damage to their habitat. The word on the street is they "gave" us these 2 parcels(which we pay for all of them to begin with) to shut Chuck up. That is just gonna make him fight harder
I wonder if this could be a case of one government entity protecting "its turf" from another using any excuse it can muster. If SWFMD opens the land up for hunting, isn't it a matter of time before FWC or the Forestry Dept takes over managing it. Keeping the land under its control helps to validate its existence/funding. I am sure there are alot of pencil pushers at SWFMD that want to keep their job and funding in place, rallying behind a protected species to keep control of strategic parcels is their business plan.
