hehe theres one less tree rat in the world .... come near my feeder if you want to squioererlzzz
I found that a 1/2" cable strung between 2 big trees about 8-10' apart up around 12' off the ground keeps em off of it.
threw those POS trail cams away ( no offense TIM-e) and can't be playin around up in trees with wiires and cable tighteners right now, but sounds like a good idea, but a pia to re-fill. if the bears around I'd think he'd go for my stinkcorn 1st its just in a 5 gal chlorine tab bucket on the ground, that should be easy pickins for a bear, surprized the hog never got it open, doesn't even appear anything tried. like I said I need to go take a look see, but will be packin more than a 22 mag.
Not really a PIA at all. What you have to do is rig the cable at one end as fixed, and add a pulley on the other side. The way I've seen it, all you need is a boat winch and about 25' of cable, a 3" D-ring, and a couple of heavy crimps. You raise and lower the feeder with the winch. It does work better to have the trees more than double the height you have the feeder, so that when you lower it, it doesn't require a ladder to fill. Just make sure the trees are good sized. A 150# feeder will pull some of the smaller pines or cypress trees together.
boat winch makes a big diff, probly the only realistic way to do it with a large capacity feeder, sounds like a healthy 2 man job though with a good ladder and some heavy duty hardware, right up my alley just not right now. plus the container is for 150lbs but made of plastic, I'm sure a metal 50 gal drum would work better for a set up like that. I wouldn't know where to attatch the lifting cable to the plastic that wouldn't eventualy rip out.
