No biggie. What you'll need is some heavy construction straps, like the ones they use to anchor walls and top plates to the foundation. They are pretty heavy duty, but they will flex some. All you do is cut 3 strips of this stuff to 3-4' and bolt one end to the leg part of the feeder, and secure the straps towards the top of the feeder drum with some bolts. you'll have to drill out the strap to add the bolts, but it will be worth it. After that, you just need to drill a hole big enough for a boat anchor shackle to tie the top of the 3 straps together. This is what your cable will go thru. An inline cable clamp with a loop of 1/8" cable attached to the shackle to keep the feeder in the middle of the cable. Thread cable thru shackle and secure to trees.
And yes, 2 extension ladders are VERY helpful. Otherwise, you're stuck with shimmying up the tree or using a climber.
hopefully Ill have something left to try that with. all this effort planning and sitting with no game to show for it is making that tiger island gig sound better all the time, but I'll be able to say I did it all myself, if it ever happens.
how long til i have to refill the feeder 4 seconds twice a day spinntime 100 lbs cracked corn oh and when should i rwplace the batterins in the feeder?
I went to check my feeder on tue ( I guess ) and it was unharmed, but alot of corn on the ground, even with it cut back to 1 sec once a day. don't need a timer at all the squirrels are throwing it down. one squirrel decided to suddenly take a permanent dirt nap as I snuck in and caught him in the act. checked out a winch and pulley sytem at homosassa wma yestrday and it looks pretty straightforward, just wanna be sure thats realy where you want it before you go to all the trouble.
My buddy set one up a few weeks ago while I watched from the shade and it took him maybe 20 min. with him using a climber. Not too bad.
