So sad that it could have been easily prevented

It's saddening news to hear this happening. I know I don't wear one out of my ladder stands when I really should.

There was a guy here last year during BP season who probably would have died or been paralyzed when he fell but his foot got stuck in the climber as he was falling out. He dangled until someone heard him yelling and they saved him.

I didn't hear any details about type of stand, or if he was even wearing a harness or not ( I would assume not, but a failure is possible I suppose). you don't have to fall far at all to break your neck, I've had quad pt's with neck fx's from diving into low pools or play wrestling. obviously he fell far enough. again my sympathies.

That's a shame! I pray for God to comfort his family.
I almost fell from my stand a few years ago when the lower part of the climber slipped! Thankfully, I was in my harness and the seat portion was secure enough. I was able to retrieve the lower and get re-attached.
I hassle everyone I hunt with to wear their harness! Yeah, it's a personal choice, but I really don't want to haul a friend's corpse out of the woods.
