This is sad... My friends live right there on that road.

It sounds like the guy didn't have a saftey harness on. The very reason I always wear mine no matter how high or low I climb...

I personally only wear a harness when i in a climber.. when im in my 2 man ladder stands i dont.. I really should being that my dad was paralyzed from the waist down for the last 20 years of his life..

I pray for the family.

Deputies ID hunter who died after falling from tree stand

A hunter who died after falling from a tree stand Tuesday has been identified as Sean Oshea Smith.

Smith, 39, of Wesley Chapel, was an officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

Smith was hunting with three other people about 4 p.m. in woods near Green Willow Run. When he didn't return to a designated meeting area three hours later, the group went looking for him and found him on the ground, deputies said.

Green Willow Run, which runs east to west, links West Drive and Quail Hollow Boulevard. There are woods on the north and south sides of the road. The group was hunting on privately owned land.

Maj. Dennis Post of the wildlife commission was one of Smith's supervisors.

He said Smith, who was married and had two sons, had been with the agency for nearly 10 years and was an avid outdoorsman in his spare time.

Smith worked mainly in Pasco and Hernando counties, although he also answered calls in northern Hillsborough and Pinellas counties and elsewhere, Post said.

Smith handled boating and hunting issues. He received an award for exceptional performance in 2007 and a letter of commendation in 2003.
