I don't personally believe that there is one crop that that is that much better than any other. Any wheat, oats, peas,or whatever. If theres plenty of feed in the woods the food plot will not see as much activity as later in the season when there is no feed left.I'm not saying food plots are a waste of time by no means, just that there is no magical plant that will suck every deer in from the next county. I also see a trend in a lot of new hunters who don't scout out good buck sign, instead rather hunt on feeders and spend a lot of time and money that is unnecessary. Buckwheat is jusat another grain, but it does make good pancakes.
One thing is when planting, mix in some legumes like peas or soy beans with your wheat or oats. Also they are a lot cheaper if you buy from a seed dealer instead of the prepackaged fancy name brands.

Agree 100% go to a good feed and seed, make up your own blend...save lots and make it better.....have used lots of things....peas, soybeans, buckwheat, etc.....some work better than others......soybeans and sunflowers in Georgia....deer kill em and you cant hardly plant enough....
