Hoss74, You mentioned that your kid wants a 410 and you would rather it be a 20ga. The economics argument holds a lot of water in my camp. Compare the cost of the shells and then do what you want to do. A youth 20ga. will do a lot more and be more effective for a youngster to learn on. That tiny shot string of a 410 works only for experts in my opinion. Treefarmer

I killed a deer with a slug in my side by side when I was a kid. Shot her at about 20 yards, did just fine. I wouldn't try and stretch a long shot out though.
