I don't have vast experience (actually no experience with a .410), so don't rely on my opinion. Hopefully it's just a good read.

I think it can be done, but it depends on your level of experience and your aim. I think it's kinda like saying "can you drive through a mudhole with a VW Rabbit?" You can, I have....but a 4wd truck would be easier.

I carry a 12 gauge mainly because I am not experienced enough, or at least I need more. It will be interesting to read the responses though. My kid wants a .410 but I am trying to convince him to get a 20 gauge. Maybe you guys can convince me I am wrong.

I am right near the myakka wma and this is there rules too. no rifles or pistols and no atvs. I also was thinking about a 410 with slugs. It is essentially a 45 right? just would have to watch range I think.

I'd think a .410 is fine for well-placed, short range shots (inside 50 yards), depending on the slugs used, especially if you have one chambered for 3" shells. As with any firearm, effectiveness is a combination of ballistics and how accurate you are with it, so I'd spend some range time trying different loads and see what works best and how well you can shoot it.

Make sure you hit them in the skull and not in the jaw or nose cavity

I picked up a 20ga smoothbore bbl with open rifle sights for the same reasons. hopefully I'll be off house arrest by then, j.k., home improvements since summer and the ol lady got a leash on me.
