Not to beat a dead horse but my origional guestion was not weather a 243 could kill a hog or not I am sure it can kill and elephant in a perfect senario, my question was can it kill one thru any thick grass or palmetto's or bushes. Which is common in the south. Personally if do not or do not plan on shooting a 243 (unless I plan on doing some varmit hunting). I prefer a 308,270 and a 3006.
Personally no disrespect so don't take this wrong. I wouldn't shoot through bushes or brush ever. And if your bullets are breaking up that bad there must have been THICK BRUSH.
I mean every story of how someone had gotten shot started with " the shooter thought he was shooting at a hog in the bushes" . Please don't take it wrong i don't mean to offend you by my response.
With that said i would just wait until you get a better shot!

No problem it wasnt even me, It was a friend of mine. just sharing a personal experience.
No animal should be shot with any bullet thru tall grass or bushes. If you cant get a clear opening on the vitals..dont shoot
I have both a .243 and a .270 steyre manlicher. Both the same guns just different calibers. I inherited them from my grandad who hunted every continent in the world. He carried both guns to Africa and killed a ton of plains game with that .243 that thing is a tac driver and I have utmost confidence in that gun if I put the cross hairs on something its going to die. I have shot plenty of hogs with it and I don't worry about a shield because I shoot every hog in the head. If a .243 is capable of killing moderate sized plains game in Africa it will handle anything that foams floridas woods.
