x711 the 6 mm remington is a nice cartridge and like you said close to a 243. old remington bolt guns are quality firearms.
To the op get the 270, more horse power.
.243" is 6mm, stuffed into a necked down 308 case. seems like any diam bullet necked up or down and put in 308 or 30-06 brass is a winner.

X2, problem is unless you reload you won't find 6MM at Walmart or your local outdoors store like you will .243. The 6MM caliber/round was Remingtons failed attempt to compete with the Winchester .243 round. It's a good capable caliber/round just a "bastard caliber" because it never gained popularity like the .243, .270, .30-30, .308, or .30-06 did, all of which are usually available most any place that sells ammo.
for sure, its always like that.. there is even better rounds in the .243/6mm size class (ballistic specs) but rounds are not available unless you reload.
6mm has a small selection on manufactured ammo and the gun itself is interesting, if anything becomes of the trade i'll post up a picture..
I'm pretty sure my older brother still uses his 6mm remington rifle for deer hunting (lives in wisconsin). He got it way before I was into shooting and do recall he had limited choices at one place on available ammo..
To stay on your question .270 or .243 My choice is the .270 simply because it has the knock down power. A .243 won't have it for a big hog in Florida. I use an A bolt .270 But the 30-06 does have more types of shells. It is all a matter of choice because with a well placed shot any weapon will kill anything. :saluting
I respectfully, 100% disagree with you
All I was saying was is that a .243 doesn't have the "knock down" power as a .270 does. As I said it's all in a well placed shot. Their is You Tube videos out their with killing hogs with a pellet gun. I tried that one time with no luck but will try again.
By the way! Nice shot on the boar. :flag2
