Good job Allen. I saw you were waiting on a deer. A 250 lb'er will do just fine though. Congrats! :toast

Yeah I botched the deer attempt. I attempted a belly crawl but I need to practice that. When your bino's hit your scope, you may as well blow a kazoo

it looked like a well placed shot, with a quality load.. .243 ballistics don't lie either, those 100gr. bullets pack some energy behind them.
recently i've been researching caliber ballistics because its my slow sales season and I have to much time now.. 6mm rem is in line with that .243 but slightly better ballistics, anyone familiar with it? (I got trade offer on a dirtbike that included a fairly cool remington bolt in 6mm)

.243 or .223 with hogs i'd go for head shots instead of conventional vital's at those 2-300 yard distances.
has the original poster of this thread purchased anything yet??

Probably not or if I had to guess, he probably had someone buy the $349 Remmy 770 at Bass Pro for him (I believe he's 16 yrs old) against all the our warnings. Impluse buy, he's just a kid apparently without a mentor.

My first rifle (still have it) was a 243 and it was a good starter caliber. About a decade ago I had to shoot it once again as something was wrong with my rifle. I center punched a doe with a core lokt bullet at 100 yds and she ran what seemed like FOREVER, like 150 yds. double lunged and bled ok but it's just a weaker caliber than the deer rifle standards. It'll still kill deer though.
