Thanks for the posts about the Rem whitetail 270. I'm looking for a deer rifle, and was about to pounce on one @ BPS. Saved me $400 and some headaches.

as said before ANY caliber or bullet type can be deflected by grass/brush/twigs/branches and you can't blame the gun/caliber or bullet type, only the shooter for taking a poor shot. sometimes stuff happens and the shooter won't be able to see what deflects his shot. I think I hold the record for arrows deflected by brush/branches.
