I rake them up into piles, and then screen them out in a frame I made out of an old 2x4 and some wire cloth. The frame is 3'x3' and covered on one side with 1/2"x1/2" wire cloth. Just make the frame 3-sided and rake the acorns in, shake, and dump into a rubbermaid trash can with lid. Done.

If you're real convincing, you might be able to get the neighborhood kids to do it (with their parents' permission) for an ice cream from the ice cream truck. 🙂
