The whole reasoning behind banning corn is to bring on a return to the 'golden age' of the foley leases for dog hunting. What do the old men who manage these clubs blame? Well, the still hunters of course. The younger generation mostly that like to archery and bp hunt. Nevermind the abuse of doe tags, overuse of herbicides, and vast clearcuts that dwindled the population. I love to run dogs and kill bucks as much as anyone but the problem is not the still hunting as much as it is other variables. There's not the browse food and cover that the deer once had and anyone can tell you that shooting a few hundred does off the land per year (or more) doesn't help in reproducing buck fawns lol
I would love for them to sit in front of me and tell me "its the still hunters fault". I would take them to school.
I grew up dog hunting, don't do it any more, and have no desire to do it again. To blame one side or the other is childish and quite honestly, baseless. We are all hunters, regardless, and we all need to stick together
If they want to know what is the reason for declining deer numbers, they need to look no further than the almighty poacher. every lease and every area has them. Lord knows we do

They don't say it to our faces, the boards meet and talk about it though. They won't come right out and say it but its very easily understood.
You are right. The poachers are terrible around sandhill and bad in other places too. They have been leaving half-cleaned does laying by the roads in a pile near Steinhatchee and off Salem Tower road. They know they won't be caught and it's hurting all the clubs. Most clubs are so large they are hard to patrol though.
I think it's all a plot put on by someone as most everyone knows that Foley wants to drop the doggin and split the leases into smaller parcels and lease it to still hunters for far more $. By dividing the hunters, they are easier to manipulate and overturn.
