am looking to get a crossbow for a friend. What is a good crossbow and what do I need to look for?
Parker makes some good ones. Pretty much the same things you look for in bows. The only difference is that draw weight doesn't always = more FPS or kinetic energy. There are several decent Xbows out there, and prices range between $350 and $1100. Some are recurve, some are compound, and some are reverse compound with the limbs starting in the rear and stretching forward. That one has almost no recoil.
Okay guys, what about a Barnett quad 400? any comments?

That is the one I have. My dad had a Barnett, my uncle has a Barnett, and I have one. I can tell you they are reliable, and affordable. Other good thing is they are made right here in West Central Florida. They stand behind their products. Any time we have had an issue, whether under warranty or not, Barnett has fixed it with little to no fees whatsoever.
I sold my dads old one to a friend of mines dad. he left it cocked in his truck and the limbs exploded. Barnett replaced limbs, strings, and cables for like $30
Horton makes a fine bow, but Barnett is damn hard to beat for the money and as was pointed out, the factory is right here in Florida...Odessa actually. I sold hundred os Barnett's bows while I was with Arrowhead Archery shop and rarely had one returned with mechanical issues. Usually wareped limbs from leaving them in the truck during the heat of the day. Best of luck!
