Why not a shotgun?
He started in September last year. He was shooting 8" plate @ 20-25 yards. Then decided that we wanted to get rid of the sight and release and try shooting instinctive. He loves it and can get good groups up to 20 yards. I'm planning on buying him a recurved once I'm sure he is ready. Kids this days love the outdoors today and the next day they don't.. However, he spends every weekend in the woods with me and he is getting better and better every day. Knows how to find game sign, how to use the compass, GPS, how to start a fire and we camp almost every weekend of the season.
We can practice up to 20 yards along side the house. We've been to lake park a couple of times, but never 3d. We'll probably go again if they do the fohaf get together there...
Why not a shotgun?
Don't have one for him yet. Mine is not his size. We already went and saw a Remington 870 Express (youth) and I'm getting him one for his birthday.
would also let him know, to go for the higher percentage body shot on a turkey with a bow. don't really have to go for the neck shot. nice broadheads will go right through them feathers. better than turkey load will.
Agree. He'll probably go with the broadheads, but I think it makes good practice if he focus on a smaller point of aim (neck/head). If he decides not to go with the gobbler guillotine, I guess he'll have no problem aiming/shooting at the body with a broadhead.
What bow does he shoot? I have grown outta my bow and its a youth bow. I think it goes from 30-50 lbs. Its the only bow ive hunted with for the past 5 years or so. Trying to get rid of it for cheap
