Well my buddy and I got there Friday around 2 in the afternoon. We setup camp across the street and headed in to look around. My biggest complaint is having to park in designated parking areas only. There were so many areas that we wanted to check out but couldn't because we just couldn't pull off the road.
Long story short, the only deer we saw on Friday were while we were riding in the truck. We found an area full of fresh rubs on almost every cedar tree, but never saw anything come out. Saturday afternoon we are in the parking area heading into the woods when another truck pulls up. We ask which way they are heading. A guy that sounds like Boomhower from King of the Hill tells us we can hunt his ladder stand if we want. I had an area I wanted to hunt so my buddy says sure I will. I didn't see anything.
Around 6:30 I get a call from him asking if I am close to the truck. I said no and he said he has a hog 20 feet from him but he's out of bullets. I was at least 15 minutes away from him.
He ended up filling our doe tag and saw an 8 point that stayed just inside the swamp and didn't give him a shot. The hog ended up walking off.
By the time I got back to the truck he was half way back to the truck dragging a "tender" doe. It weighed in at a whopping 53lbs. Cleaned her up and headed home that night. I didn't feel like sleeping in a leaking tent again that night.
